The Champagne d’Argente is one first rabbit breeds, having been developed in the Champagne province of France over 400 years ago. Originally known as the French Silver for its silvery coat, it was undoubtedly first bread for its pelt. Kits are born pure black turning silver grey in about 3 weeks. By 6 months old they have their adult coloration. Champagnes are not a very common breed in rabbit shows today, but appear to be making a comeback.
